  • Water Adjustment
  • Swimming on Front: front float, front glide, and leg action.
  • Swimming on Back: back float, back glide, and leg action.
  • Breath Control: blowing bubbles and under water exploration
  • Changing Directions: rolling back to front and front to back.
  • Personal Safety: choosing a life jacket and using a lifejacket
  • Water Exit: lifting out of the water.

Parent-tot

  • Water Adjustment
  • Swimming on Front: front float, front glide, leg action, arm action, and combined stroke on front.
  • Swimming on Back: back float, back glide, leg action, arm action, combined stroke on back.

Level 1

  • Water Entry and Exit: learning to use ladder, steps, and side.
  • Breath Control and Underwater Swimming: Submerge mouth, nose, and eyes.
  • Buoyancy on Front: maintain front float position and recover to standing with assistance.
  • Buoyancy on Back: maintain back float position and recover to standing with assistance.
  • Changing Directions and Position: change directions of travel while walking or paddling, roll over from front to back and back to front.
  • Treading: explore arm and hand movements.
  • Swim on Front: alternating arm action, simultaneous arm action, alternating leg action, simultaneous leg action, and combined stroke on front.
  • Swim on Back: alternating arm action, simultaneous arm action, alternating leg action, simultaneous leg action, and combined stroke on back.
  • General and Personal Water Safety: water safety rules, how to use a life jacket, and wearing a life jacket in the water.
  • Helping Others: how to get help.

Level 2

  • Water Entry and Exit: enter water by stepping or jumping from the side, and exit water safely using ladder or side
  • Breath Control and Underwater Swimming: Submerge entire head, bobs, open underwater, and pick up submerged toys.
  • Buoyancy on Front: maintain front float position (face in the water) and recover, front glide, and float in face-down position.
  • Buoyancy on Back: maintain back float position and recover, and back glide.
  • Changing Direction and Position: change direction of travel paddling on front or back and roll over front to back and back to front.
  • Treading: using arm and leg actions on front.
  • Swim on Front: combined arm and leg actions on front.
  • Swim on Back: finning arm action, sculling arm action, and combined arm and leg action on back.
  • Swim on Side: alternating leg action and simultaneous leg action.
  • General and Personal Water Safety: water safety rules, how to use a life jacket, and move into the water while wearing a life jacket.
  • Helping Others: how to recognize a swimmer in distress and how to get help.

Level 3

  • Water Entry and Exit: jump into deep water from the side, and head first entry from sitting or kneeling.
  • Breath Control and Underwater Swimming: submerge and retrieve an object, bobs with the head fully submerged, and rotary breathing.
  • Buoyancy on Front: front glide with kick and survival float.
  • Buoyancy on Back: back glide with kick and back float.
  • Changing Direction and Position: change position from vertical to horizontal on front and back.
  • Treading: tread water.
  • Swim on Front: front crawl and butterfly (kick and body motion).
  • Swim on Back: back crawl.
  • General and Personal Water Safety: understand general water safety rules, rules for safe diving, enter and exit the water wearing a life jacket, HELP position, and Huddle position.
  • Helping Others: reaching assist and check-call-care.

Level 4

  • Water Entry and Exit: dive from compact or stride position.
  • Breath Control and Underwater Swimming: swim underwater and feet first surface dive.
  • Buoyancy on front: survival float.
  • Buoyancy on back: back float.
  • Changing Direction and Position: open turn on front and push off in streamlined position, and open turn on back and push off in streamlined position.
  • Treading: tread using scissor, breaststroke, or rotary kick and sculling arm motions.
  • Swim on Front: front crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly
  • Swim on Back: back crawl and elementary backstroke.
  • Swim on Side: swim on side with scissors kick.
  • General and Personal Water Safety: additional rules for safe diving and compact jump from a height while wearing a life jacket.
  • Helping Others: throwing assist and care for conscious choking victim.

Level 5

  • Water Entry and Exit: shallow dive from the side, glide, and begin stroke.
  • Breath Control and Underwater Swimming: swim underwater, tuck surface dive, and pike surface dive.
  • Buoyancy on Front: survival float.
  • Buoyancy on Back: back float.
  • Changing Direction and Position: flip turn while swimming on front and back.
  • Treading water: tread using two different types of kick.
  • Swim on Front: front crawl, butterfly, and breaststroke.
  • Swim on Back: back crawl and elementary backstroke.
  • Swim on Side: sidestroke.
  • General and Personal Water Safety: survival swimming.
  • Helping Others: rescue breathing.
